Dutchess Community College – Materials Lab

Scope of Project:
Provide HVAC, Plumbing and Electrical system design to transform two existing classrooms into the new Materials Lab for the engineering department.  Installation included new HVAC equipment, lighting, specialty lab equipment for material testing and prototyping and power upgrades. Additionally, there was a small scope of flooring installation and repainting of the spaces that were taken on by our engineering team.

 Summary:
The HVAC component of the project was easily achieved with the installation of cassette mini-split systems, the implementation of the new lab equipment proposed the most interesting requirements. Unique systems included fume control for benchtop furnaces & 3D printers, plumbing for quench testing, scopes of installation for impact and tensile testing equipment as well as a room wide compressed air system with benchtop quick connects.
Electrically, the rooms were both equipped with new LED recessed lighting fixtures and a new panel-board to serve the new loads within the rooms. The power installation followed the selection of the unique testing equipment for this lab including the installation of power poles to facilitate power usage at owner provided lab tables.
